UFC veteran Felipe Colares has died after being hit by a bus. He was 29.

According to the Brazilian media outlet Combate citing Colares’ coach Rodrigo Babi as the source, the tragic incident occurred Monday morning in Rio’s Guaratiba district. Colares, who was returning from training at the time, was hit by a bus as he was walking home. Colares’ injuries were treated by first responders, who rushed him to the hospital. However, he died on his way to the hospital.

Selma Cunha confirmed Colares’ death on Facebook.

Colares became a professional in July 2013, and he was 8-0 when he was called up to UFC. He made his UFC début in February 2019. He went 2-4 and won two decisions over Domingo Pilarte, before losing to Chase Hooper in May 2022.

Colares’ most recent competition was in February of this year at Ares FC 12, where he defeated Alioune Nhaye with a rear naked choke submission.

Colares was in the news in January after he posted an Instagram video showing him subduing a thief allegedly in Brazil. He told MMA Fighting he acted after he saw “an alleged attack on a woman.”

According to Combate’s report, Colares was survived by his wife Jaqueline and a six-month-old child.
