The Bantamweight title between Aljamain Sterling vs. Henry Cejudo will be the UFC 287 Main Event

For the UFC 287 card, which takes place April 8, a bantamweight fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo will be targeted to be the main event.

Multiple sources with information about the promotion confirmed this to MMA Fighting on Wednesday. However, no contracts or signatures have been made at this time. Sterling said that he is still recovering from a torn bicep and will need additional rehabilitation before he can return for action at UFC 287.

Sterling is expected to defend his title against Cejudo in April, provided he gets cleared.

After both fighters stated that the fight would take place in 2023, the UFC has been working hard on the bantamweight championship fight. Rumours circulated that the fight could take place in March. However, Sterling revealed his injury later, forcing any possible matchup to be pushed back.

Sterling seeks his ninth consecutive win overall and third consecutive defense of the title after previously defeating Petr Yan, T. J. Dillashaw.

Cejudo will make his first UFC appearance since 2020 when he abruptly retired after a win against Dominick Cruz. Cejudo was previously a UFC two-division champion and held both the flyweight and bantamweight titles.

The Olympic gold medalist in Olympic wrestling is now vying for the title against Sterling. UFC 287 has no current location yet. However, several bouts have been confirmed.
