Even though Magsayo scored a knockdown in round 9, it was not enough to end Vargas. Magsayo is a good jabber, but he could not use the punch as often as he usually prefers since Vargas is quick and tall. There were also rounds when Vargas had his way and gained momentum, especially in the third and eighth rounds.

Here’s how Vargas knocks down in round 9:

Magsayo had a good chance to win after the knockdown, however, Vargas survive and even comeback the 11th or 12th rounds.

Vargas stated after the fight, “This is my second world title, this one’s going back to Mexico.” Magsayo did “get him”, but Vargas said that he was still in control of the fight. “He got me there, and I lost some control.”

Vargas was asked what his next move would be. He replied “A unification” or “Leo Santa Cruz.” Santa Cruz is a unification because Santa Cruz holds the WBA featherweight title. Brandon Figueroa will also be on his WBC list.

Magsayo says during the interview that even though he was disappointed, he did his best and will definitely coming back stronger. He will watch the fight back and get back in the gym to come back. He also added that Vargas is much taller and was the man of the fight.
