“Now it is official! Let’s go on May 6th!” UFC 288, The lightweight lion is hungry, and ready to hunt” as Charles Oliveira will finally make his return.

Charles Oliveira, a former UFC lightweight champion, announced Tuesday via his Instagram that he would be fighting MMA Fighting’s No. Beneil Dariush, a lightweight ranked #4, will be taking on MMA Fighting’s No. 1 contender at 155 pounds at UFC 288 in May 6. MMA Fighting confirmed that the contracts for the matchup have been signed.

Rumours of a matchup between Oliveira (33-2-9, 1 NC), and Dariush (22-4-1) have been circulating for several weeks. Dariush had previously confirmed that the UFC was planning to fight this summer but said that it was difficult for them to confirm a date. Dariush currently has an 8-fight winning streak. He was most recently victorious over Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280.

Fans will also be able to see Oliveira in action at this event, as “Do Bronx”, who lost the lightweight title to Islam Makhachev during the main event, is the latest time they have seen Oliveira. Oliveira had previously won 11 fights straight, with 10 of them by stoppage.

UFC 288 will feature the newly announced bantamweight title bout between Aljamain Sterling, current champion, and Henry Cejudo (ex-two-division champion). Unofficial location is yet to be revealed.
