Mexican UFC Champion Brandon Moreno Felt A Bit of Pressure Defending his Belt

Brandon Moreno

Brandon Moreno explained how his status of UFC’s Mexican-born champion was a major source of pressure prior to his title defense at UFC 270.

Brandon Moreno aka “The Assassin Baby”, recently came from three rounds win over Kai Kara France, is now set to unify the flyweight belts against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283.

It is rare for two fighters to face each other four times in any combat sport. However, the fight between Moreno & Figueiredo has been a close one after three intense fights. After Figueiredo’s groin strike was disallowed, their first encounter in 2020 ended in a draw. Moreno won the flyweight title with an impressive third round submission.

Moreno became the first Mexican-born UFC champion with his win at UFC 263 – a distinction Moreno apparently did not take lightly. According to “The Assassin Baby”, Moreno felt a lot of responsibility towards his country before defending his title against Figueiredo in UFC 270.

Moreno will face additional pressure when he competes in hostile territory at UFC 283, the first UFC event in Brazil since 2020. Figueiredo will defend his title in the comain event. Glover Texeira, a former light heavyweight champion, will fight Jamahal Hill to win the vacant title.
