Camp of Jon Jones Wants to Help UFC to Book Fight Against Francis Ngannou

Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou

For a future bout, Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou may not be out of the question.

Jones defeated Ciryl Gane in the first round to win the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285 After a three year layoff, Jones’s heavyweight debut was flawless. He didn’t show any signs of ring rust and he was able to fight with no ring fatigue.

Jones had been linked to Ngannou for the belt in the days Ngannou was champion, prior to Gane’s booking. Ngannou split with the UFC earlier in the year, eliminating any possibility of Jones fighting anytime soon.

UFC President Dana White recently rejected the idea that Ngannou would return to the promotion following his free agency. Jones’ representatives seem a little more positive that they can make Ngannou fight happen.

Richard Schaefer, Jones’ agent, spoke out in a recent interview to MMA Fighting about his optimism regarding booking Jones/Ngannou.

Schaefer expressed hope about the Jones/Ngannou matchup, even though Dana [White, UFC President] made it clear that [Ngannou] would never return, as they say, “Schaefer stated. “If the fight makes financial sense for UFC, I believe they will be open to it…

“This is something I can now help because I have a good relationship with Francis. I would be glad to help smooth the process and to try to get the fight done. I told Hunter [UFC] CBO and Dana that I believed that the fight would break all pay-per-view records a year ago.

Ngannou fought Gane last year in a victory at UFC 270. His focus is on boxing and his debut could be as soon as this summer.

Jones won the heavyweight belt and will likely face Stipe Mizocic next. Miocic claimed that the UFC told him that Jones will face him during UFC 290’s International Fight Week.

Jones and Ngannou have become hostile to each other, after being once friendly. Jones did not respond to Ngannou’s congratulatory tweet after his victory over Gane.

Jones vs. Ngannou is a matchup that many fighter fans consider a dream matchup. Schaefer and the Jones team seem determined to make it happen.
